About our concrete contractor crew in Gautier

Broad concrete steps lead to a brick-and-siding home's front entrance, bordered by stone retaining walls, grass, and dark gravel.

How I got into concrete in Gautier

I got into concrete pouring walks and small patios for neighbors on weekends, and I learned the trade by working beside older finishers and asking them a lot of questions. People kept asking me what I was doing and why, and I found I liked explaining it as much as the work itself. I started Gautier Concrete in 2017. Today we're known for solid flatwork, which means flat slabs like driveways, patios and walks, and for foundations, with the reasons laid out before anything gets poured.

Gautier sits on the coast, and the city warns that heavy rain can flood a lot of areas here, even outside the mapped flood zone. That's a big part of why I care so much about what's under a slab and where the water runs off it. I come out to look at your job myself, I'm the one who answers your calls, and my crew of finishers and laborers does the work with me on site most days. If you'd like me to look at yours, send us a note.

What you'll notice when we do your job

These are the parts of a concrete job you'll actually see from us, from the first walk around your yard to the day you can drive on the new slab.

  • You'll understand the job before the pour

I walk you through each choice in plain words, like how thick the slab is and where the control joints go, the grooves we cut so cracks follow a line we picked instead of wandering. I'll also tell you up front where it may still crack and how long curing takes, the wait while it hardens before you walk or drive on it.

  • The base gets the same care as the top

We dig out and pack the subgrade, the ground your slab sits on, instead of raking it level, because a slab on loose dirt settles with the dirt, and we check where the water runs so it heads away from your house. Nobody sees that work once we leave, so it's the first thing people want to cut from a budget, and it's the part I'd keep.

  • Permit and flood questions get answered early

Before we start, we check with the city or county office for your address about what your job needs and walk you through the paperwork, and in Gautier the city's Planning and Building Department issues residential permits. The city says any work in the flood plain must be permitted and asks you to call the city about your flood zone before you build, so we sort that out before anyone digs.

Licenses and insurance behind our concrete work

  • Mississippi contractor license on larger jobs

The state contractor licensing board requires a yearly license for paid work on an existing home that totals more than $10,000, and for paid building of a home up to three floors tall that costs over $50,000. On a big driveway, a foundation or a new build, it's fair to ask any contractor about that license before you sign.

  • Licensed and insured

Fully licensed and insured. I'm glad to go over it with you at the estimate, the same way I go over the rest of the job.
